Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya Episode 07 REVIEW
Fate/kaleid liner プリズマ☆イリヤ

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Because Ilya has a fever, the result of her magic usage the night before, Sella forces Ilya to stay home. By afternoon, Ilya's fever is gone, but she's bored, so Ruby establishes a communications link with Sapphire, allowing Ilya to speak with Miyu. Their chat is awkward, so Ruby establishes a visual, revealing that Miyu is in a maid outfit. A "weird" switch flips on inside Ilya and she wants to see Miyu in person, as a maid-san, immediately. Miyu reluctantly agrees, her appearance apparently causing Sella distress. Ilya is very excited by Miyu's maid costume and wants to be addressed as "goshujin-sama" despite the fact that a maid would normally address Ilya as "ojousama". Miyu does so because of how frantic Ilya is to have this said.

After the depressed Sella serves tea to the two girls, Ilya apologizes for her behavior. When Sapphire reveals that Miyu is a real maid, Miyu confesses that she's employed by Luvia in exchange for being cared for. Ilya cites the rarity of a maid-san/mahou shoujo character, so she expresses her admiration for Miyu, more so because she believes Miyu captured the Saber card. Sapphire takes Ruby outside and shows Ruby what really happened with Ilya and Saber's defeat. Ruby wonders if this is how the cards are supposed to be used, but she decides not to worry about things as a win is a win. When they return to Ilya's room they find she has Miyu bent over on the bed from behind.

After again apologizing to Miyu for her weird switch being activated, Ilya gets Miyu to stop addressing her as "Ilyasviel" and just address her as Ilya. Miyu agrees and Ilya is happy that Miyu and she are now friends.  However, her weird switch activates again and she undresses to her panties, leaping at Miyu to have a maid wipe her down. Their female classmate friends burst in to see the mostly naked Ilya have the maid-san Miyu pinned on the bed. When the group, including Miyu, get ready to leave, Sella sees them to the door in her Einzbern maid outfit, speaking formally and even addressing Ilya as "ojousama" despite Ilya's statement that she doesn't care for Sella's uniform.

Some night later, Luvia, Miyu, Rin, and Ilya are in a mirror world searching for a card when Miyu gets nicked by a knife and poisoned. The four form a defensive perimeter, but the Assassin Class Card has 50+ different forms to battle. Rin is not happy with Ilya's faltering, not realizing she was poisoned. It is decided that the group will make a break for it, but Ilya cannot follow. Rin, Luvia, and Miyu race back when they discover this, where Rin realizes Ilya has been poisoned. Fearing for her life and the others, Ilya's power activates, and a massive power burst kills all of the Assassins, returning them to single card form. Miyu barely was able to protect herself, Rin, and Luvia from this, so she harshly scolds Ilya for it, saying she doesn't want to work with Ilya again. The crying Ilya flees, returning to her home where she spends the night crying.

Thoughts/Review:

Man, was this episode ever all over the emotional scale, ranging from ecchi comedy elements to harshness and anger (Miyu) as well as depression and fear (Ilya).

First to the comedy stuff. This part was actually quite weird, even though I admit to chuckling a bit at times. Still, I can't say I was that comfortable with Ilya suddenly getting all ecchi and fanservicey.  ^_^;

I did get a chuckle at Sella being shamed into not only speaking in a formal manner (ojousama indeed), but also dressing in that Einzbern maid uniform. Seeing her like that, I seem to remember seeing her before now. Was she in the Fate/stay night anime as a minor character?

The subject of Miyu's potential status as an orphan came up. Even if her parents are alive, for whatever reason, she's alone and having to work as a maid for Luvia.  The series keeps hinting at some sort of tragedy with Miyu, which I hope isn't the case.

For the second half of the episode, things went back to cardcaptoring card capturing, where we learn that these mirror worlds get smaller with every card captured. Not sure how that works since you'd think each card would be separately creating its own world, but what do I know.  The one humor moment here came from Ruby wanting Ilya to mow down everything, calling such an effort "Lyrical Magical Genocide".  Of course, there may be some foreshadowing buried in the humor, but we'll see.

Regardless, we have Ilya get knocked down thanks to poison (and I guess her powers eventually nullified that since after her power burst, that plot point was forgotten), but for whatever reason, Rin didn't notice and jumps down her throat. However, Rin redeems herself when she comes back for Ilya after realizing why Ilya wasn't running away with them.

Then there was Ilya using her power, this time on a more conscious level. She blows away all of the Assassin persons and restores the card, but thanks to Miyu's harsh words, I guess Miyu gets that card just like she scored the Saber card. Actually, Miyu keeping the Saber card and most likely the Assassin card annoys me because they should both go to Ilya, who's proven she can at least use them subconsciously.

Regardless, while there's no doubt that Ilya made a mistake in saving everyone while nearly hurting them in the process, I don't agree with how Miyu handled the situation. Granted, Miyu is very young and she may be afraid in her own way after seeing just how powerful Ilya is. However, Ilya shouldn't have been harshly scolded, but should have just been thanked for saving everyone, but then gently told that this kind of reckless power usage could do more harm than good, so she needs to be careful.

Either way, we end of with a crying Ilya and no one there to comfort her. Ruby was there, but I guess had nothing to say.

Well, I'm looking forward to seeing where all of this goes. This has been a surprisingly good series, though I could have done without the ecchi jokes and content in this episode.
