Globe surpasses the Philippines ISPs competition across 10 out of 17 regions in terms of mobile download speed, according to Ookla's Q1 2021 data. This is due to the telco's ongoing network enhancements, which aim to provide consumers with a better mobile data experience.
Based on Ookla's Q1 2021 report, Globe has posted the fastest mobile download speeds in the following regions: Bicol, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Cagayan Valley, Caraga, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Eastern Visayas, Ilocos Region, Northern Mindanao, Region XII (SOCCSKSARGEN), and Zamboanga.
Average mobile download speeds of at least 5.76 Mbps to 9.08 Mbps have been recorded in these areas.
The telco's consistent investments in network upgrades and technology growth can be traced to the ongoing increases in mobile download speeds. 90% of Globe's cell towers now have 4G LTE technology, which offers a better and faster mobile data experience.
For the Philippines ISPs, the average mobile download speed improved 29.22% in Q1 2021, posting 24.72 Mbps compared to 19.13 Mbps in Q4 2020.
Globe president and chief executive officer Ernest Cu said, "We are glad that our increased investments and steady improvements in our network are being felt by our customers. Having improved mobile download speed in various regions across the country bodes well for inclusive digital growth as we envisioned."
We can also see the overall improvement of ISPs' mobile data download speed in February 2021, in which the Philippines ranks 83rd in mobile internet speed.
To further improve the internet in the Philippines, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) stated that they have been working with other agencies to streamline permitting requirements to support telcos with their cellular towers' deployment. Between July 2020 and January 2021, there was a substantial increase in cellular towers, totaling 3,211 new cell sites due to this network infrastructure expansion.
